JOB DESCRIPTION
JOB TITLE: REPORTS TO: |
Income Tax Preparer Operations Manager |
JOB SUMMARY: Prepares income tax returns for
individual taxpayers including 1040 with a focus on Schedule A and Schedule
C. Preparation of tax returns is done by a face to face interview process
with client. S/he also answers questions with clients as needed, and will
pack up a finished tax return for our clients. S/he will perform general & administrative tasks as
needed.
ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS OF THE JOB:
●Greet clients upon arrival and make
them comfortable.
● Interviews clients to get a basic
understanding of their financial affairs.
●
Reviews previous year's tax return and financial records to find any
possible missing or incomplete information.
● Prepares tax returns using
appropriate Lacerte software and computes tax, following tax law
publications for guidance on unusual situations.
●Submits return to supervisor for review and then presents final return to client.
●After reviewing final return with client, preparer will
electronically file return for client.
●Reads professional literature,
attends tax seminars and training courses to keep abreast of changes in tax
law.
ADDITIONAL
DUTIES/RESPONSIBILITIES:
● Inform clients about other services
offered by the firm. Commissions are available for closed sales.
REQUIREMENTS
FOR THE JOB:
● Excellent math
skills
● Ability to research
tax-related and IRS information on the Internet
● Comfortable interpreting financial statements
● Excellent verbal
communication skills; can relate comfortably on all socio-economic levels
● Detail oriented with excellent follow
through and capacity to work quickly under high pressure during tax season
● Energetic and comfortable working in
fast-paced environment
EXPERIENCE AND EDUCATION:
● College education or tax preparation training
helpful
● Previous tax preparation experience
preferred
